Hotel Baltic though time

Five generations through 147 years have owned and run the Ferry building in Høruphav, that since 1875 has borne the name 'Hotel Baltic'. Beginning the 1st April 1845 and continuing through until the 1st  September 1992. It has however, no longer been a ferry yard since 1960 as the ferry services between Høruphav and Kegnæs at the time had been stopped for 32 years.

1665
The ferry connection was the basis for the inn / hotel.
The ferry connection can be attributed to Duke Hans the Younger from Sønderborg castle who often hosted large hunts on Kegnæs, farming land and building the villages  'Sønderby' and Østerby. Therefor for practical and convenience reasons the ferry link was started.

1869
At the age of 68 Søren Willesen transferred ownership of his property incl.the inn to his eldest son, Hans Peter Willesen. Søren Willesen died at the age of 71 and therfore did not live to see his son start building a new hotel.

1875
3 years prior, began H.P.Willesen construction of a new hotel in Hørup, however it took more than 3 years before the opening ceremony was held, mostly due to a shortage of bricks in the intervening years.

1876
Large attractive gardens overlooking the water were added. The gardens were used by summer guests who preferred to sit in the open and enjoy the view

1897
Hotel and ferry services were transferred to A. Willesen, born in 1872.

1935
The hotel was taken over by the daughter Dorothea, who was married to Johannes Danielsen. The couple took over a good, well-run business. The 18 rooms were often understandably fully booked, especially during the summer months when visitors annually returned to the beautiful and splendid hotel.

1960
The hotel was run by the eldest son, Hans Peter who 5 years later took over the hotel owning it until 1992.

1992
Hans Peter Danielsen reached the age of 60 and had the opportunity, due to the new pension arrangements, to retire. On 7 December 1991the property was sold to 'Stenbjerg Rentals' v / Hans Michael Jebsen.
One era came to an end ... another began.

Since 1 September 1992, Hotel Baltic has undergone a very extensive yet, tasteful major redevelopment, this has given the old hotel a fresh touch of bygone days, and added modern comfort.
Today the Hotel Baltic stands as a historic hotel in a class of its own, beautifully situated close to the coast and marina. The famous 'Gendarme path', which runs all the way to the Danish - German border also starts at the hotel..
The hotel has 14 unique rooms, all furnished with antiques in full harmony with the rest of the hotel.
